License Information

Social.sol operates two distinct codebases—(1) the on-chain Social Protocol and (2) the Social.sol client application—and each is licensed differently.

1. The Social Protocol — Open Source under the MIT License

The Social Protocol’s smart contracts, SDKs, and reference documentation are released under the permissive MIT License. This means you may:

  1. Use the code for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial;

  2. Copy and redistribute the code and derived works;

  3. Modify, merge, publish, and/or sublicense the code under your own terms;

  4. Do so without attribution requirements beyond preserving the original copyright notice and license text.

Contributing

Forks and pull requests are welcome. By submitting a contribution, you agree that it shall be licensed under the MIT License so the entire project remains MIT-compatible.

Security Reminder: Deploying or modifying smart contracts carries risk. Always audit and test thoroughly before deploying to mainnet.

2. The Social.sol Application — Proprietary Software

The Social.sol mobile/desktop app, front-end code, design assets, and supporting services are closed-source, proprietary software owned by Social.sol, Inc. All rights are reserved except where expressly granted in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to install and use the app solely for accessing the Social Protocol, subject to compliance with our Terms. You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app;

  • Copy, redistribute, or sublicense the app or its source code;

  • Use the app’s assets (logos, UI components, trademarks) outside of nominative fair use.

3. Trademarks & Branding

“Social.sol,” the Social.sol logo, and related marks are trademarks of Social.sol, Inc. The MIT License does not grant trademark rights. Please follow our Brand Guidelines for any permitted reference use.

4. Third-Party Components

The Social.sol app integrates certain third-party libraries distributed under their own open-source licenses (e.g., MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0). Such components remain licensed under their respective terms; see the in-app “Credits” section for a full list.
